Still NYC: A Short Film by Ynon Lan

ADC Member captures New York the same as it ever was

ADC Member Ynon Lan, an animation student at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, Israel, recently finished editing a fun project that he shot during his first visit to New York. The one-minute film was selected as a Vimeo Staff Pick just days after airing, and has been making the rounds on the internet ever since.

Ynon roamed the streets for days on end, taking still photographs of the same subjects (brownstones, yellow cabs, people in a hurry) in different places all around the city. He then compiled them together into a stop-motion short that’ll make even the toughest New Yorker crack a smile.

“This year I visited New York for the first time. Throughout my time there I was walking all around the city with my camera. I was looking for a way to portray all the different types of scenery and people that I saw as well as keep the constant energy of the city. I decided to take still photographs and compile them in a video as if they were one flowing motion.”

Even though the film is only 60 seconds long, Ynon took thousands of photos around the city to achieve the desired effect. Who knows — you might even be in one of them.
