Keren Richter for Giant Artists Annual Show
Young Guns 7 winner Keren Richter is featured in the Giant Artists COLLECTION, a multimedia group exhibition showcasing the wide-ranging work of artists represented by Los Angeles-based agency Giant Artists. The show opened on December 2 at THIS Los Angeles.
Keren tried her hand at gouache for her piece in the show, a florally-rich portrait of her friend Doug. “Recently I’ve been fascinated by the unconventional floral design of Amy Merick and Saipua. I wanted an excuse to incorporate botanical elements akin to a Dutch floral painting from the 1600’s into my portraits and textiles. The resulting images seem a natural progression from the pattern paintings and enamel patchwork ‘quilts’ I created years ago. Looking at the work of Matisse and Hockney inspired me to make my compositions more cohesive and handle the portraits in my most realistic manner,” said Keren.
She also designed a silkscreened totebag as a giveaway during the opening.
