Chermayeff & Geismar & Haviv: Some Things (Should) Never Change

In Chermayeff & Geismar & Haviv’s sixtieth anniversary year, Tom Geismar and Sagi Haviv discuss the firm’s long-view approach to identity design.

The One Club for Creativity kicks off Creative Week with one of the most respected design firms in history. Founded by ADC Hall of Fame laureates Ivan Chermayeff, Tom Geismar and Robert Brownjohn in 1957, Chermayeff & Geismar & Haviv has consistently been on the forefront of brand identities, graphics, art in architecture, exhibits and motion graphics. Over the years, the firm has created some of the most iconic logos, wordmarks and brand identities in history, from Mobil Oil, NBC and Chase Bank to National Geographic, PBS and Showtime Networks. They crafted the official identity of our nation’s bicentennial celebrations, as well as the longstanding branding of the Museum of Modern Art.

This last one makes our invite especially appropriate, as we welcome you to join us on Monday, May 8, 2017, 1:30–3:30 PM, at the Celeste Bartos Theater in The Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Education and Research Building at MoMA,for an engaging discussion by founding partner Tom Geismar and partner and designer Sagi Haviv. Tom and Sagi will give insight into the lasting power of their creations, with examples that span from the 1950s to the present day, including recent projects for Conservation International, Harvard University Press, and the Library of Congress.
