Unnumbered Sparks

Google Creative Lab & Studio Echelman

Unnumbered Sparks is a massive aerial sculpture that was suspended over the Vancouver, Canada waterfront in celebration of the 2014 TED Conference. Created entirely with lightweight textiles by artist Janet Echelman, at night the sculpture came alive through a 10 million pixel Chrome browser window projected into the sky. Using a mobile web browser (no app required), visitors to the waterfront could paint with light on the sculpture, accompanied by ambient sound. The project intertwined public art and and the web at an unprecedented scale. Thousands of Vancouver residents gathered each night to experience it, including over 500 simultaneous participants at its peak. View more at http://www.unnumberedsparks.com.
