Union Station, one of Kansas City’s most history buildings was approaching it’s 100th anniversary, but with declining foot traffic, needed a way to remind citizens why it was worth celebrating. Our idea was to encourage citizens to visit Kansas City’s historic Union Station by bringing its most compelling history to life. We filmed reenactments of the stations biggest events from the past 100 years and created an augmented reality app where users could relive history in the exact spot it took place.
Not only were users able to interact with the exhibit, they could be a part of it, inserting themselves into each scene where they could capture photos to share on social media. The campaign resulted in foot traffic not seen for decades at Union Station. During opening weekend alone we had over 1,000 downloads and 30,000 in-app interactions with visitors spending an average of one hour reliving history.
