Sean Dougherty

Creative Director

Sean Dougherty is a design-focused live-action director and creative director based in Brooklyn, New York. For the last 14 years, he has worked for award winning studios by creating live action and animation for commercials, and design for interactive projects.

In 2000, after studying at the University of California, Irvine and then Pasadena’s Art Center College of Design, Sean’s first home was a new little startup called Brand New School. Sean was its first employee, moving from Designer, to Art Director, and eventually leading the company’s expansion to New York City. In 2006, he began freelancing as an Art Director for some of the most forward thinking motion design studios in LA and NY. His hands-on approach helped guide visual strategies for a variety of clients such as Euro RSCG Worldwide, Wieden+Kennedy, Young & Rubicam, and Venables Bell & Partners. He has produced groundbreaking campaigns for Target, Google, Ritz Crackers, Starbucks and Bloomberg. His portfolio as a director include a seven-minute segment of “A Liar’s Autobiography 3D,” the feature film about Monty Python’s Graham Chapman. In 2012, Sean returned to Brand New School where he served as a creative director and live action director, developing visual strategies for the studio’s Digital, Design, and Live-Action projects.

Sean continues to expand and implement his knowledge of motion graphics, interactive and film/video. He currently freelances, allowing him to explore the range of opportunities that are at the intersection of art & design and technology. Lately, Sean can be found printing on his 1953 Vandercook letterpress, happily getting lost sketching through code via Getting Started with Processing, or teaching his Graphic Design class at Pratt Institute.
