Art Directors Club Lends Support To Hurricane Sandy Victims
ADC opens doors to ADC members and New York community and encourages donations to the American Red Cross.
The Art Directors Club has opened the doors of its Gallery and International Members Lounge in Manhattan to ADC members in need of office space, wireless internet and coffee in the wake of this week’s superstorm Sandy.
The hurricane, which hit the northeast – with special emphasis on New York and New Jersey – on Monday evening has left hundreds of thousands of residents without power or running water, and in incredibly grim conditions in the days following. Power is not expected to be restored until this weekend at the earliest.
The ADC is also encouraging those in its local and global network community to donate to the American Red Cross at this link. The fundraising efforts will continue into next week at the ADC Young Guns X Exhibition Launch Party, where the winners of YGX – some of the greatest young creative minds in the world – will be revealed. The ADC will be selling prints and photographs taken by photographer Randy Scott Slavin during the power outage in Manhattan to raise funds, as well as encouraging direct donations to the Red Cross throughout the event.
“We want to make a dent, however small, to show our support for those in our local and surrounding communities,” ADC Executive Director Ignacio Oreamuno said. “The devastation is massive and we welcome anyone in our community who needs a place to pick up the pieces and work to come share our space. Knowing many in our extended communities still need food and supplies, we also encourage anyone who is able to donate to the Red Cross to do so.”
Brendan Watson, ADC’s Director of Education and leader of the ADC Young Guns program, added, “In a time such as this, it is important for us to leverage the spotlight of an event like ADC Young Guns to create an outlet that can help the victims of Hurricane Sandy. Support will be needed long after power is restored to these communities.”
ADC members are welcome to visit 106 West 29th St. (between 6th and 7th) to set up and work in the International Members Lounge.
The ADC Young Guns Exhibition Party and fundraising event will take place on November 8th, also at the Gallery in Manhattan. For more information, visit http://www.adcglobal.org/adc/events/calendar/#404.
